About The Danube River
The Danube River rises in the Black Forest in Germany, flowing southeast for 1780 miles through or touching the border of ten countries: Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine and Romania before emptying into the Black Sea. It’s the second longest river in Europe (behind the Volga River) and one of the two which flows eastward (the other one being the Pô River.)
Here’s a view of it from Margaret Island (Margitsziget), through the longest bridge in Budapest: the Árpád Bridge (3044ft.) There are 15 bridges over the Danube River in Budapest.
Here’s another view from the Citadelle with the Parliament and Margitsziget in the background. From far to close, Margaret Bridge, Chain Bridge and Elizabeth Bridge.
The Danube goes through 19 towns or cities in Germany, 4 in Austria, 3 in Slovakia, 19 in Hungary, 2 in Croatia, 15 in Serbia, 10 in Bulgaria, 1 in Moldova, 4 in Ukraine, 20 in Romania. A total of 30 rivers flow into and contribute to the Danube throughout its course.
